So, as CR and Dsurian know, I've been having a few computer issues.

First, a few weeks back, I had walked through troubleshooting with CR - at first, we narrowed it down to an issue with the graphics card. Then, the computer messed up even with a different graphics card in it, and wouldn't even turn on. After a series (5+ hours) of tinkering with it, it powered up but never turned on (not even a single beep).

Now, I turned it on a few days ago just to see what would happen. It turned on just fine. I even played SWTOR on high settings (which it had not done before by default) and everything was smooth. So, just to be on the safe side, I made sure to turn it off and let it cool down. The next day, I tried it again - it shut off (power still on, but no input signal to monitor) on a loading screen. Today, I tried it again - both times, I got in-game and playing for about 2-3 minutes, then it would inexplicably shut off again, the same way (power on, system running, but no input signal).

So, I turned it off and tried turning it back on, and now I'm getting a steady beep like I used to get. I'm out of ideas as to what could be the issue here, so, fellow Shadow Knights - any ideas?

Just so I understand clearly - you are using a Macbook Pro?

On another note, I'm soon to install Windows 7 on her MacPro core i7 processor, 8GB RAM 13" display via Parallels. You don't use Parallels, correct?

I do use a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp, but in this case, it is a borrowed desktop rig running Windows 7.

And yeah - I don't use Parallels but I don't see any reason why it won't work for your wife! Her MacBook is significantly better than mine, too, so the game should run just fine.

Nem,
The next time you get her running, take the side of the case off and see if the fans are still spinning, especially the CPU fan.
Next, grab a core temp app like http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ and log how hot it is at idle - it should idle around 40C and never exceed 55C when idle.
Then get her in-game and at the time she shuts off, see how hot the CPU heatsink is (by touch).

I just had flashbacks to a job who's CPU wasn't cooling properly and was hitting some insane temp during load while the heatsink stayed almost cold - turned out the thermal compound had turned to dust and wasn't doing anything. Just a thought...

If it boots up again, I'll give all that a try. It has only happened in-game (so far as I know), but then again, I only turn it on when I'm playing the game. So, I'll see if I can get it to turn on and just sit for a while instead of loading the game.
